Ok so looking at it I think it might be that higher tiers take more XP to level up but also give better yields on each level up (more stats, apparently extra skills. etc)
MC at E rank might level easily and quickly but total bonuses are actually net lower than the higher ranked ones if they were at a similar level for xp

ok so basically what we’ve discovered is that the mc’s aptitude scales his points per level up and because his aptitude is low if the S-rankers were to level up a bit and fought him he would definitely lose
