But why did she return his memories and save him from the water in the first place? If it was just to torture him later, she didn’t have to let him spread the disease or cut him loose. Richard’s childish behavior is only infuriatingly trumped by the plot armor he has; even when the protagonists have him dead to rights 3+ times:
- bribing a prison guard to speak to an imperial betrayer,
- evading capture but still hanging around his future wife,
- somehow getting away even after all of that, too…
