Ok, I did not expect a pretty orc… but more importantly, it’s good worldbuilding to have capable, morale characters that didn’t make it the last time around: obviously the bad guys would get rid of them first.
If mc just went around gathering his former allies and helping them grow faster, this would be boring and unrealistic considering the narrative of “cultists sabotage humanity before the invasion”.
