Oh shit, I now remember why I dropped this.
Ranks and the guild and adventurers work weird in this story. He goes on about being a mid rank adventurer but was able to easily destroy that dangerous look Giant Ape by himself. I think he has a warped view of how powerful he is due to his previous party. And now I’m guessing they started his private army off as C rank in recognition of his ability. The majority of his members are newbs, they likely would have started most others off as D or even F rank, even with a prominent leader.
