For those of you don’t understand the context, it’s actually a beautiful ending of an arc. For mc, he also has feeling for her, and he knows that his identity is a fake monk, and that’s why he chooses to leave cuz he doesn’t want to disappoint her. If she were to find out that all of her feelings, experience, and emotions are all played, she would be so sad and disappointed. So mc doesn’t want to hurt her.

While in Daoyun’s case, she doesn’t know mc’s true identity, but she knows that he has feeling for her as well, and she believes that mc’s dying and choosing to leave. She probably thinks that mc leaves cuz he doesn’t want her to get hurt by seeing him dying. And she also believes that mc’s telling her to let it go and move on from him.

Overall, even though they have different motivations, their feelings are all genuine. And each side chooses to leave and move on cuz that’s the best choice for both of em.

And some of you may argue, why not just be together, even if she were to realize the truth, mc would have his way to deal with it. Well, it’s true, but it’s not a good way to go. In the arc, it’s shown multiple times that true love doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be together, live together forever. If you really love someone, just seeing that person’s happiness is enough. What’s the point of continue being together if it only brings pain to both of you; you can’t just force your way with it. Like mc said “Just loving is enough, we don’t have to be together”. It’s better to have a beautiful memories with each other.
