What makes this story so good is that mc is unaware of anything that’s actually going on *chef kisses* 
theory thus far. inky is an intercosmic eldritch horror/old one of dreams/nightmares. like nyarlathotep in lovecraftian mythos. has it’s eye’s on arz/nokin but because it’s surrounded by dream beasts and itai, inky can’t quite get in there. so in it’s infinite wisdom, it splits off an aspect, not avatar, gives it a false identity of being human and upbringing. keeping it/lin jie from knowing who he really is. thusly, inky can slip lin jie from whatever force is preventing inky from getting in. a man on the inside who is able to provide key players with inky’s forbidden and esoteric knowledge in order to destabilize nokin so inky can take over and consume this world. why? because why not? i can’t fathom the mind of a being like inky and i don’t think i want to.
