It’s also completely unbelievable. It ruins what otherwise might have been a great story. Plus, a butler doing it? Causing such a problem? That makes it even more unbelievable. Commoners don’t eat their own; they support one another because they know that if they don’t their overall survival rate drops radically.
This is the first point in this story where the author didn’t think things through. His intention to create suspense has failed miserably. We all seem to hate this kind of emotional manipulation.
