If it means becoming the most hated man in the whole world in order to save the innocent then I’d gladly let the devil be unleashed on this world

I dislike and disagree with this notion that protecting innocents requires becoming some kind of villain-like character. I think a character like Naruto or Tanjuro from Demon Slayer is a much better model of a protector’s mindset and philosophy.
But he’s going with Chinese ideology here, so whatevs.
