The notion of an absolute power bowing to the commoners is a nice one, but let’s be real. That’s the fake image every genuine communist and socialist tyrant has fostered before he had his grip secured on the populace. This can only happen in fiction. Human nature makes it essentially impossible.
The closest example I can think of, in which a man who could have become a king, refused to become just another corrupt ruler, is George Washington. His enemy King George III said that if he can give up power, he’ll be the greatest man who’s ever lived.
