People hear that the average life span was about 30 or so, and just âssume people only became 30. And then âssume they aged faster or something.
However in reality the average lifespan is of all people that have been born. Of which a lot of people died in childhood. And many as babies.
But once you got past 16, you likely were reach the age between 60 and 80. As a man at least. Plenty of women died during childbirth.
However being counted as old before age 30 doesn’t make sense if you counted only as an adult with 21.
Most fantasy stories get that wrong as well. And while in medieval times age of consent wasn’t a thing. And you could marry very young. And that often happened in political marriages. The median age, to get married, was around 25.
