I don’t know why he doesn’t start with restructuring the debt of the church and get out immediately from the scammer deal the prior landlord gave him. Or just leave the church and orphanage empty and move to new land not owned by the church to rebuild the orphanage. I don’t get why he can treat the children as assets as they can be “given away” by adoption at any time. So MC adopts them all, moves them to a new “house” that becomes an orphanage, no slaves can be made. Just removing debt eliminates leverage of the scum merchant. Then remove the filter, let it go poisonous, and start new negotiations with leverage.
