This is a lovely story, but…
Between the author trying to generate mystery by only saying fragments of conversation and the translator constantly being unsure of who the pronouns refer to, this is frustrating and confusing. Not because of the story, because it’s never quite clear what’s being said or what is happening or happened before. It’s like watching a movie with the sound turned too low, but not off. I’m wishing for subtitles.
