I have a hard time believing the merchant’s guild would just cave to the lord like that. Giving in on this would be really bad for business, because it’s giving him the power to dictate who they trade with. That guild’s members will quickly abandon such a weak organization and found a new one.
The entire rise of the guild system is due to the weakening of the nobility in comparison to the rise of the middle class. They’re not about to just give up their newly-acquired rights to some upstart Count.
