The miko had two doors to choose and she picked the death door got scared and decided to tell everyone he was evil. Talk about a self made prophesy. Tried to make a move to end him before he got strong only to make him strong and cause many the many deaths she was trying to avoid. Hope he pays her a visit to get back at the church.
