The dragon had already accepted its fate. Even if Peng had saved it, it would probably resent him instead of being grateful. He was sacrificing himself for the betterment of the rest of dragonkind, just as Deep Meditation (the undead dragon) before had mentioned to the bloodrage dragon

As a pet owner I’ve had the misfortune of witnessing my buddy lose his will to live. Once that happens, no amount of medicine or care matters, it will slowly starve itself until it dies. Better to have a quick death than suffer.

why didnt mc ask to form a quick blood contract so he could put it in the storage and after it dies somewhere safe have the ants eat the flesh then have dumby resurrect the bones
