Brook once mentioned that he was part of a Royal guard. So he was probably a guard in Gunko’s family’s kingdom.
Her being his daughter wouldn’t make any sense because why would he mention and make a fuss about a bitchass whale while not talking about a whole daughter? He was probably a father figure to her but not a blood-relative.
the problem i had with gaban is why does he not have armament haki on his body. i mean sure he could voluntarily get hit to save his child but if he didn’t have conqueror haki, the hit would not deal substantial damage to him if he properly armor himself with haki.
others might not be able to train for full-body armament haki, but he is a legend with vast experience so one would think he train himself to at least have some protection and defense. dealing hostage tactic is like an ABC thing for people like him to survive since pirates could do almost anything to attack the enemy. he should have counter measure.
