Past Lives of the Thunder God

I tried it, and it was… not great. I’m thinking like 4.5/10

Murim story where the main character is betrayed by other orthodox mates. He comes back (apparently he has 9 lives?) And this is his “final” life I guess? Each time he dies he comes back later in history so it’s not regression… But he also has memories of the life that he is taking over, but also the name of the person he takes over is himself. So then this guy must have like 17 lives worth of experience right? Well congrats, beyond him using the knowledge to heal his body and train, he acts like any other blank MC.

Anyway, from there it just goes into the most generic prodigal son type of story where he takes over Murim bit by bit. Meeting with classic sects, becoming friends with the Hao Clan etc. All of the premise stuff is basically to give a reason for the very boring deus ex machina that happens each time.

There’s no strategy or tactics to talk about in any of the fights. No studying the enemy, no real story within the choreography. Just showing off power levels.

I can think of at least 3 regression/reincarnation murim stories that are better than this: Reincarnation of the Heavenly Demon, Chronicles of the Demon Faction, Chronicles of the Heavenly Demon. At least they have stories that make some amount of sense, as well as MCs that are fun to follow.

I don’t think it ever finished either…
