The fact that after 4 years he doesn’t talk about evading hunting parties, let alone a visit in a cave used by elves, I think implies that the assassin maid didn’t betray him. She knew he had quite a few magic skills and swordsmanship, no body found due to way he left, so likely he is surviving. As an elf she may have even known about the cave. If she told all of this to hunters they likely would have looked harder for him enough to have had at least a near encounter at some point.
