If someone is wondering about the stun effect on the mage, the explanation in the novel is that when the mage tries to use a spell, it takes some time to charge up the spell with mana, it doesn’t happen instantly. During this time, if someone is able to forcibly stop the mage’s spell such as attacking them, it acts as a critical hit, and the mage gets a mana disruption / explosion which is another critical hit and stops them from using spells for some time and provides massive damage to them.
