How is that butler allowed to keep his head? To induce the new king to alcohol and gluttonous excesses as an act of “remembrance” for the slain brothers and recently passed father? From the time ArchDuke heard where these bastardizations of traditions originated that butler dude should have been chopped up and king should have been under strict tutelage. I suppose there are rules of propriety that held archduke from being so appropriately heavy handed, but gah…

Honestly, just off the king. What a dumbass character. Swayed by alcohol from a man who was just recently appointed. Like dude just comes out of nowhere, offers booze then says sweet nothing to the guy and the worthless king becomes under his control. Or author could at least made the guy a beautiful woman instead, it would have made more sense if he was seduced.

It’s cool that empire doesn’t just send spies, but is actively trying different approaches (even blatant moves) – portrays them as an immediate adversary instead of a looming threat from the future.
