While fire/heat is needed, it would be nice to see more of how he processed to make the cement mix.
Basic cement is just a binder, often you do larger medium and small rocks/stones to fill in the gaps to optimize the usage. Naturally rock the right size for a spot would be best.
Cement also is best at about 28% water to the mix ratio, though 1/3rd is easier to remember and measure. Temperature 50+ is preferred, and if you keep it wet during it’s curing stage it can get stronger and stronger over time. Which then comes down to thickness of the cement for how much of a load it can handle.
But in this comic, it’s just used as a mortar/glue which means most of this won’t matter.
