Could the devils have something to do with male witches? It was said some chapters ago that whilst very rare, male witches exist.

Could it be that a faction of the witches in the past became tainted by a kingdom/troupe/militia etc (someone with authority) delved too deep into magic knowledge and ended up creating a hive mind capable of self-autonomy?

If this power originally came from the witches, it would make sense for the church to be so adamant on killing them all. However, they know that witches aren’t inherently evil. Not only do they use them for pills, they also enploynthem for battle. They also obviously don’t want them building power to be able to fight back.

Either a male witch is behind it, or, the witches and the church used to both collaborate, and ended up making something they shouldn’t have. What makes me believe both witches and the church were involved is the fact a church-like structure could be seen, with spires. At the same time, the devils are capable of all sorts of magic.

Furthermore, the bird witch turned into a dragon, just like the one the devils used. Whilst I think that a male witch (or wizard) could have been behind it, I do think experiments on witches is what caused this. The red mist is similar to the aura the red pills give off, and the devils seem to have red magic stones in them. I think those red stones came from mined God’s punishment stones.

Something went wrong in the past that made the witches run away and the church hunt then down. I don’t believe that the church always hated witches. I feel that a witch may have initially ruled the church, but something went awry and the people’s fear was too strong, forcing them to hide.

I have many theories, but I think the church and the witches used to both be closely related, which is why all the records were erased and nobody knows what happened 450 years ago. The church doesn’t want anybody knowing the church and witches used to be one entity.
