I hate that 4th wall breaking turmoil scene, it felt half written/rushed too. It couldve been written better… 🙁

Tilly extrapolating that is too contrived. Smart or not, witches were poorly understood, if that, and had nothing to do with the Kingdoms peoples or nobles educational perceptions.
So seeing witches power as something foreign is exactly what anyone would do in that world because it is foreign and poorly understood.
Just because Roland has shown his understanding of “reality/nature” through science and doesnt include magic wouldn’t even remotely make even a genuis think hes from another world.
You dont need to go that far outside the box. Since the only understanding people had of witches was “evil, demonic”. Thats it.
So from THIS worlds perspective, people would discover scientific theories and laws etc all while the “magic of witches” would remain a complete foreign concept…IN THIS WORLD.
So for her to think that is very contrived.
