I think it’s for him to be able to make a map of the sky and put a distance on each of the stars ( that he sees )
and perhaps calculating how much time remain till the bloody moon ( we know that it’s coming and we’ve seen it but don’t know how much time remains until it’s visible to the naked eye )

Just pointing out that the origin of Geometry dates back more than 2,000 years and most likely dates back thousands of years earlier
We know the Sumerians used arithmetic because of all their tablets, scribes etc. They all date back several thousands of years.
Its ridiculous for the “21st century man” Roland to teach them geometry, especially related to astronomy…..
