It really seems like another type of civilization. They have a giant what looks like a metallic city, and they have tubes connected to under a bone mask and a tub full of red gas that kills regular people (or witches, idk if that distinction is important yet)
I just noticed on my 3rd read through that i have no idea how they had that crossbow????? That cross bow was pretty sophisticated
