Idk if y’all have noticed but MC is being genuine in this arc, her interpretation isn’t necessarily wrong, he’s genuinely sorry for not being able to save everyone despite being the reason for them being sick, he does the very best he can to save them because he feels that it’s his responsibility to do so. As MC said during his talk with Dolores, he dislikes hurting innocent people and hates the fact that he’s caused them so much suffering even though he had no other options.

Him as Night Bloodhound is ironically the first time we see what’s below his mask, the person he is deep down when he’s not plotting for revenge or hiding his emotions. A somewhat righteous person who does everything he can for those he feels responsible for, he’s not really a bad person but he’s usually trapped by his burning desire for revenge and can’t see anything else but his revenge is also the only purpose he has left to fend off the deep sadness in his heart. Before his regression he buried his sadness with pure devotion to his clan, chasing the recognition he needed to make him feel like it was all worth it, after it he replaced that devotion with revenge and now he’s slowly starting to find a purpose beyond that (not necessarily right now but in this storyline as a whole starting from the barbarian arc)
