May be reading into this too much, but the fact that the duke uses a Sabre while wearing no armour shows his skills. Sabre is one of the forms of fighting that gets the most doubles(both people get hit at once) and you need control in order to avoid getting doubles. There’s even a training method for Sabre to avoid doubles which involves taking turns striking at each other, forcing yourself to either block or parry after an attack.
