The quote was definitely from that man in the dreams. And our mc if probably the reincarnation of that man but don’t know and the dreams are his memories.

Soo… I knew that would be the plot twist, since it was obvious. But still, my previous comment was supposed to be a joke.
Now, is it reincarnation or possesion. Since there is some dissociation: “that man” I would guess the latter. Yet he has some control over the body.
Now since the swordsman doesn’t seem too violent, just being ready to die to become stronger. I would say he is not with those people, quite the opposite even, the caped character has an eye on their back. They might be a “servant of the star” – the star being something thats always observing.
Moving on to the next chapter….
