Or maybe better said, “idiot plot” device.
There is no way that someone like him won’t thoroughly explore the Eiffel Tower to find traces of a possible underworlder. And if he had done that he would have definitely found the blood.
This, plus the ridiculous disappearance of the spear (who would take the spear? Underworlders wouldn’t give a shit about it) is going to create problems in the future, which is what incompetent writers ALWAYS do to make the plot progress or to create tension.
I truly truly hate writers who can’t write without using cheap plot devices like these.
My guess is that the league is there not as a sport, but to train future superhumans for the next war.
