From what I’ve heard and seen of the orcs of this world so far, is that they hate humans so much they would still destroy your hamlet, anyway. (probably)
The elder could’ve also not allowed them in and send them on their way or asked them to help defend the village the moment they mentioned orcs being in the vicinity.
