This went very, very differently compared to the novel.
differences
The author did place an emphasis on the sage following the mc around in the distance watching him, very impressed a “good for nothing” managed to avoid passing out from her spell. At first she assumes it’s a fluke but as she’s watching him fight she becomes more and more interested. The mc notes that she probably thought he wouldn’t be able to spot her. This seems to have been mostly omitted.
Next while the audience in question did watch the mc fight Paracelsus, the fight went very differently.
The mc knew that in the game, Eleanor dies to a monster hiding in her shadow at the last second of the event. It’s something that teachers aren’t able to stop.
The mc also says there’s a consequence to this happening, and that’s the marketplace of the kingdom going into chaos. The mc knows he’ll lose control of the butterfly effect he’s been meticulously trying to follow.
So the mc decides to hold out against Paracelsus, realizing he needs to rescue her from the demon. Of course, he knows without “Hour of the Genius” he won’t be able to win the fight.
He refuses to use it because when he does, it means he won’t be able to rescue Eleanor with it.
However he points out: there are two ways to win a fight.
1) become stronger than your opponent
2) make your opponent weaker than you
So his strategy is to provoke Paracelsus into going berserk by taking advantage of his hatred of nobles, then making snide comments about his dead teacher. Paracelsus gets mad and loses control, making a mistake, causing the mc to stab his shoulder. He doesn’t stop there, he punches him, knocking him down unable to get up. Paracelsus thinks to himself it was the first time in his life he felt defeat and was in disbelief.
The mc doesn’t even bother checking the time, he realizes the demon is about to attack her and THEN activates hour of the genius, rescuing her.
small future chapter spoiler
Unlike this fight, the next fight between Paracelsus and Knox will result in the mc immediately activating hour of the genius, completely manhandling him one-sidedly.
