There are 4 primary story character tropes. Hero, Anti-Hero, Anti-Villian, and Villian. To oversimplify – Hero is good guy who does the good thing. Anti-Hero is bad guy who does the good thing. Anti-Villian is good guy who does the bad thing. Villian is bad guy who does the bad thing.
This MC is a kind of a close toss up between anti-hero and anti-villian. He is actually a good guy but he poses as a bad guy. Keep in mind this is a choice not a neccesity, he could clear his name he just chooses to go along with the story. In action he does bad things to keep up the appearance of a bad guy which would make him a villian by definition, but overall he is doing good making him a hero by definition. MC is an Anti-Villian.

He tries so hard to be the villian but is doomed to be the hero. Poor MC.
