Damn, I guess I’m the only one with a dirty mind. 
Gonna predict it now. He saved them in the past and his friend died during that incident. He gave all the credit for his actions to his dead friend making him a hero and he was blamed for the heroes death. Elf queen lady just put the pieces together and realizes their hero is fake and they were horrible to MC in the past.
