A lot of fighting against mad beasts is not exactly my favorite. I prefer fighting other people. Also the best battle in the whole story is very far away.
I’m guessing there are several “lieutenants” carrying a crystal per segment of the horde
So by destroying those black crystals the Alacryans losses control a portion of the horde.
