Aaaand they died. 
The Purple King deserved this, he had a brother that never treated him differently despite the difficulties he had, yet he became enraged that he still had dreams as a level 1 colorless, instead of worrying about the dangers he continuously faced by folliwin a party 50 levels higher than him as an easily oneshottable porter.
Also dual Colors being one in a million means up to about 10 000 having 2 colors (assuming everyone except a few colorless have the potential to unlock a color).
Which kinda explains why he was a King despite being relatively weak, as he doesn’t exactly have competition when it comes to dual colored mages, thanks to his ability to briefly double his firepower. And now that it’s stolen, a new Purple King shouldn’t have too much difficulty overtaking him.
Ah right, this matters nothing because he’s now either dead, a puppet, or soon to be dead, or soon to be so utterly powerless he might never matter again for at least a good part of the story.
