I kind of like the fact that classes are not ultimately random, but they are based on the person’s core being. As despicable as it is, it provides some grounded reason as to why his family acts like assholes instead of being random assholes just because (a lazy way for an author to justify the plot moving forward imho). It gives a reason as of why certain noble families like the protagonist’s always get a warrior class. It also gives a reason as to why Elma got exactly the class he wanted. His being before awakening might have given him a different martial class, but just before the moment of his class choice, he remembers his old life and his whole subconscious shifts dramatically to being a heavy knight. Almost as if someone pushed him into that class decision. Coincidences? Gods meddling? Who knows really, we’ll see.
