The shadowy figure stopped short of the pool, smiling maliciously. Held out a strange artifact, with a long cord on it. Pushed down a tab on one side, and dropped it in the water. BZZT! Death by Toaster. *Manga credits roll*

It was a common occurrence in older / original mmo’s.
A party of well geared players with a leader who knew their way around the world & probabilities of areas/mobs/bosses etc…
And when for some reason newer people group up with them, instead of carrying them like dead weight, the geared party would make small covenient side trips on the way to their original party goal, in order to grab better weapons and gear for the new people, so that they can contribute to the force multiplier of the group.
Many times they’d have backup weapons or older gear they could lend them right away until they did get the drops they wanted for the new people.(since those games didnt have the scammy d bag tactic of binding equipment on pickup or equip other than cursed gear)
Since sometimes there were mobs that would disarm and steal your weapon mid combat, so having a backup to pull out and equip was necessary or you’d get killed while unarmed by a mob using your own powerful weapon.
The best were when some groups had a perfect group composition, so once the people joined the party, before continuing, even without backup gear, the casters could summon/conjure a temporary weapon better than starter gear for them to use, while mage enchants the rest of their gear with bonus permanent magical protection, at the cost of time it takes to enchant it.
Plus stores had different levels of full sets of armor for every price range.
But in this case, it is extremely weird the way the gear is setup…
They have starter gear… and high level drops for millions…
But ABSOLUTELY nothing in between for mid levels?
Like… what is the point of making even 50 mil from a rare drop, if THAT 50 mil, can’t be used to buy full sets of low/mid level upgrades above starter gear?
What the heck are they even getting excited for at the price when the only thing they seem to be able to spend it on is either 1 single rare gear piece or skill at a time… or food and lodging…
Is it just excitement at making enough savings to be able to retire from adventuring? How much would they need for that at these prices? Billions or trillions of gold?
