MC in a duel use only 3 spells and gets 0.8% of unique magic go up. Now fights a spider rat and basically depletes his magic by doing a big spell and only 0.1% goes up the unique magic. So the theory the mc had to fight with magic with living beings is not really the thing that makes the unique magic percent go up.
I think that it is using a lot of different magic that makes the unique magic progress go up or where mc need to tweak the magic
