He has obviously some )and that’s a long stretch) Marxist-ish ideas.. he wants a society where status is erased and magic is shared by everyone equally instead of being solely a thing for the wealthy elites and where the common workers are looked down upon..
He’s probably turned to dark magic to “level” the playing field by erasing the elites like these kinds of people always do…tearing down the top instead of elevating the bottom…
