you all forgetting that he is not a swordsman.
he trained his magical power not his body
so, if we go with the common sense that swordsmen are better than mages in melee, then it is pretty much apparent that he would loose
also there was no mention of taurus squad being the weakest, just that they hardly get any new recruites, who are better than other squads’ recruites

he is suddenly weak now, bravo author, way of ruining the character. even tho he spent all his life since childhood training to kill the demon lord, he lost to a random guy in the academy. wow, just wow.
