He is just lacking understanding of the world. After all, life amounts to silly play, essentially. And why not have fun and be whimsical while it lasts? Expectations and self-esteem, these are all relative. If you don’t ever muster the courage to live, you will regret it heavily once the play comes to an end. So just do what you want and don’t be ashamed of it, really. Unless you are a homicidal pedo or something xD
