I like to think that this means Ghislaine’s path as a mercenary was an impressively rocky one, at least early on. ‘Moriana’s Recognition’ as described is a pretty extreme measure, the kind of thing you do because you can’t figure out how to establish cred any other way – which would line up with his original lifetime as a spoiled noble running away to become a mercenary, without any real achievements or funding to back him up.
He gets a bad early reputation as a rich brat playing soldier, so he has to resort to Moriana’s Recognition, repeatedly, as a last-ditch measure to change his reputation and force the other mercs to acknowledge him. Once he gets his feet under him and starts his ascent to the title of ‘Mercenary King’, he ends up using Moriana’s Recognition several more times as a way to forcibly weld together mercenary outfits and quell threats to his leadership.
