Pretty sure the solar store merchant just works with the thieves and debt collector to rob the opposition and run them out of business with debt, then they either join the dollar store merchant to pay off their debts over time or get slave trafficked.
Joining the dollar store means he can charge triple what they used to charge for the same quality (possibly lower quality) and have no competition
