The holy sword reminds me A LOT of Nightblood from the stormlight archive.
I’m guessing the dragon was nerfed on purpose, but even so it was supposed to be stronger than the demon king is supposed to be if fought with the holy sword. The MC purposely fought the demon king without the sword for extra challenge leading to his disappointment here.

I guess the dragon never recovered from what happened before it’s sealing and lost it’s marbles and edge completely, what’s now left is a still pretty strong body but it seems the dragon isn’t there anymore to control it
