For the Pope himself to make that declaration, was he tricked or disappointed in someone else who had the occupation? Or perhaps someone just claiming to have it, then followers just blindly follow the proclamation? Even with the reactions of background characters since the start who weren’t present or witnessed the battle, I’m not sure if it’s because of the proclamation, or people are just too mentally lacking, or unimaginative to understand how to make the job work.
Or maybe what the Pope does know of the skill is so unbelievable that he made himself a skeptic, so he can weed out false claims from those who genuinely are blessed with the occupation.
