Japanese culture made it so that the boy had to look forward and forgive in order to stop feeling like a victim.
In the west, he’d probably beat her up out of 2 years of pent up rage and land in jail.

Not every villain needs a sob story or a chance at redemption. I understand she is only a kid but god.. I’m bored of morally grey character fixation in manga and anime.
It’s overused and a seinen tagged manga can explore more nuanced ideas. Such as: it shouldn’t be victims duty to fix their bully.

No, his defeat doesn’t undo those two years of torment. He said that. But he can choose to forgive her and look at the good things of their past and see her for who she wants to become now. She has never worked hard, but he has inspired her, and he understood that. If she works hard with the idea of impressing him (that was the clear meaning of her words…she’s just awkward/a classic tsundere), she will change. She had rotten parents too, but she didn’t give up on him until she saw that he had become a depressed blob. Her anger was at what he had become…handled in the worst way possible.
So no, its not excusing the torment she put him through…but he overcame it. If he decides she’s become an even better version of who she was before this all started, the girl he enjoyed playing with and enjoyed being with…that is his choice, not for us to judge. To be blunt, the version of Nack that endured those two years is dead, and he’s not taking the memories of those experiences into his new life as a member of the Rescue Squad.
The manga isn’t excusing what she did. But to think that means she needs to be torched and that Nack can’t forgive her if she has genuinely repented and sought to become someone worthy of standing by his side…that is not what mature people do.
And yes, I’m an abuse survivor from those same years, who as an adult became friends with that same “kid” because they had massively changed. I processed my pain, and chose to embrace a new friend.
Forgiveness offered to truly changed people (which it seems Mina wants to be) is a powerful thing, and makes for new chances. Even if they are a tsundere.

Jesus christ thats sooooo messed up…… you actually tried to give her a redeeming reason. She continuesly use flames on him untill his mana was emty. And brought along a mob to make matters worse. Day after day. Why would you try to trivialize that? You dont accidently become a bully. Utter BS.

I’m glad the comments below didn’t forgive the female noble’s behavior just because the author tried to explain it away.

So she didn’t earn anything about her own shitty behaviour… only that ‘he’ had become stronger ? Her and her cheering section have been beating him nearly to death in back alleys for two years, and that’s it…forgiven? A masochist and a sadist, they’re made for each other.

come on, you can’t let her off that easily. she didn’t even apologize or show any sign of any remorse.
you live a happier life if you just cut such people out of your life.
