Ratso: Tell me Hemis, you still think I’m weak..?
Hemis: Ahh, the passage of time is so cruel…bonds that we think will last forever fall apart over time. But still, thanks to you, I got to enjoy some of it. So rest in Peace, dear Ratso

Still a weak-ass b!tch though

i like how the demons are human and the humans are demons in this one but poor ratboy mommy could have shown some mercy…
Hemis literally surrounds herself with strong people. At hearing Hemis’ words, the 2nd Corps Commander should have started researching ways to speed up the growth of muscle/bone density, and then used it while training with people like Reidrunn. That way, he would have gotten strong WHILE ALSO BEING ABLE TO KEEP UP HIS CHIMERA RESEARCH, thus making the chimeras stronger by removing their weakest link (himself).
Instead, he doubled down on his mistake, and tried to get other people to team up with him to take down Hemis, only succeeding in making new chains that still have the same weakest link as the chimeras…
Hemis didn’t hate Rotach or see him as a threat. I think she kept asking him to give up to maybe find an excuse to spare him. This really feels like a failed parent/child relationship where the child is just so desperate to prove themselves, they end up self-destructing instead.
Tbf the rat guy didn’t deserve that ending. He didn’t deserve any kindness at all, and his selfish delusions caused his troops to die a pointless death. Just because he wanted to get his hands on the MC, he ended up weakening the entire demonkind and backstabbed his old benefactor. I get that the author wanted to give him redeemable features in the end, but his crimes were crazy. It is almost equivalent to trying to say “he was a good kid” about a school shooter.
Also that 3rd corps commander likely knew that they couldn’t beat Hemis, so she literally managed to gain points with her, for 0 personal effort. Maybe she is good, but that is left to be seen.
This is such great writting. I love this story.
