Fun fact: The sugestion spell here is similar to what hypnosis works like.
In the sense that the effect is dependant on one’s emotional state, and that the brain creates images that don’t make sense, but it belives that it happened so much, that it ignores the discrepancies.
And yes, hypnosis is real (scientifically proven) but doesn’t work excacly like we see here (or in most media).
What I mean by that is while under hypnosis your brain enters a state of hyper focus/ concentration because of which the brain reacts to orders without thinking, and after the hypnosis ends, it finds an answear why it took such action of its free will, even if it doesn’t make sense.
Now for what the media get wrong (for plot convinence) hypnosis doesn’t work for long – you can’t get hypnotised and then years or even days later when hearing some code words aweaken as a sleeping agent.
Second, while under hypnosis, you won’t do anything that is against your nature, even in the state of hyper focus the left hemisphere watches over everything as the silent observer (It’s an intresting subject, the so-called left hemisphere interpreter, there are many videos on youtube about it so check it out if you have the time) and when something happens that goes against your nature (example harming/killing someone) your brain will “pull the handbreak” and forcefully pull you out of hypnosis.
…But the handbreak doesn’t always work, especially if you trust the one giving orders. Imagine this: scientists from a well-known and respected lab, invite people for a test, the attende is put under hypnosis, and is told to harm the person infront of them. Now, normaly the brain would stop the person from harming the other, but since the person ordering so is a trust-worthy scientist, the brain will ignore common sense and will harm the other person.
I… don’t really know where I’m going with this, and I think I devieited from the subject…. so I will stop writting now
