Oh, I think I now get your misunderstanding because of your lack of reading comprehension:
He said that the country he is in has the same name as a country in the game. ONLY THE NAMES ARE IDENTICAL! But he never heard of the name of the town he is in (making it unlikely it’s the game). But he isn’t sure he hasn’t just forgôtten that name (implied).
In the end because of those two things HE IS UNSURE if he is in the game or not.
