He’s clearly not a despicable guy, but he’s blind to the savagery that his side inflicts on others (even other humans) and from the moment he takes a liking to someone, he is blind to their wrongdoings only taking offense to what they have to suffer.
The dwarf stripped and chained him, humiliated him, etc. then he told him his entire life story and how his son died at the hands of weapons he created and sold to the enemy kingdom and how he still felt a sense of accomplishment hearing about how his sword was great at mowing down his own kin and other demi-humans. And Larx experiences and hears all that and his takeaway is: ‘Good dwarf! The other dwarfs are savages for despising him.’
He’s not a bad kid, but he lacks the brain cells to see the grey in things and put it in perspective. He’s got a strong subconscious bias towards humans and a low tolerance for injustice. An ideal combination to produce human supremacy hardliners.
